MELTING CAPABILITIES

AJAX 22 Ton Channel Induction Furnace ... view photo
The Ajax channel furnace holds up to 44,000 pounds of molten iron at a temperature of 2800 degrees fahrenheit, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The furnace is only shut down once a year, for three weeks in the summer to install new refractory. Material is charged into the furnace using a scrap magnet. The furnace is constantly available to supply iron to be poured into molds, eliminating waiting time and increasing productivity.

Inductotherm 1500 kW Coreless Induction Furnaces ... view photo
Two coreless furnaces, each at 1500 kilowatts and holding 3200 pounds of iron, are used to melt metal which is transferred into the Ajax channel furnace. The coreless furnaces provide additional melt capacity, beyond that of the channel furnace. The coreless furnaces are also used to melt the Hi Chrome YC iron poured at Lethbridge Iron Works. The coreless furnaces are filled with material using two indexing, vibratory charge conveyors.

The tundish ladle is used to transfer up to 2800 pounds at a time from the Ajax furnace to the pouring floor.

Pouring Ladles ... view photo
The pouring ladles receive their metal from the tundish ladle, anywhere from 350 to 700 pounds at a time. The metal is then poured into the sand molds to produce the castings. Five pouring lines operate simultaneously.
