The Hunter HMP-10 molding machine produces 14" x 19"
molds at up to 200 molds per hour. The machine has been retrofitted
with Allen Bradley PLC-5 controls to provide superior performance,
improved cycle time and easier troubleshooting. The mold handling
system consists of an accumulating conveyor, a turntable for pouring
molds under weights and jackets, and a 3 wide cooling belt conveyor
which provides extended in-mold cooling time.

The Hunter HMP-10C molding machine also produces 14" x 19"
molds at up to 200 molds per hour and has been retrofitted with
Allen Bradley PLC-5 controls. A Vulcan Engineering Truflo 2000-V
mold handling system was installed in August, 2000. The mold handling
system consists of an accumulating conveyor, a board return system,
and an automated pallet line that handles 117 molds, of which
58 are under weights and jackets. Rapid cycle time is achieved
utilizing proportional hydraulic controls on the major machine
motions. The over/under system optimizes floor space and provides
extended in-mold cooling time. Access to numerous molds for pouring
reducing machine waiting time.

The Hunter XL2024 molding machine produces 20" x 24" molds
at up to 200 molds per hour. The machine is a major update from the
HMP-20 style of machine. A completely redesigned squeeze staion eliminates
mold misalignment. The mold handling system consists of a Truflo IV
equipped with 120 mold storage positions, half of which are under weights
and jackets. The system provides superior weight and jacket dwell time,
as well as a significant in-mold cooling period.

Lethbridge Iron Works received the first ever Hunter HMP-20H molding
machine put into service. The machine produces 20" x 24"
molds at up to 200 molds per hour. Proportional hydraulics provide
faster, smoother, more precise machine motions with limitless
control, ensuring the best mold possible for each particular job.
The HLH-20 Type III mold handling system has 123 mold storage
positions, one third with weights and jackets.

The IMM line, as we call it, produces molds that are 42"
x 54" x 24" high. Although the two machines are capable
of producing up to 40 molds per hour with an automated handling
system, they currently produce up to 10 molds per hour with manual
handling. Each machine (cope machine and drag machine) produces
a very hard green sand mold, due to the 200,000 pounds of pressure
applied to the mold during the squeeze operation. The machines
are capable of producing castings in a green sand mold that exhibit
superior casting finish and dimensional tolerance.
