Tip #7 - Information Required for an Accurate Casting Quotation

  1. Company name and address, contact name, phone number, fax number, and e-mail address
  2. Description of part including part number
  3. Model, drawing or sample
  4. Estimated annual usage and shipping release quantities
  5. Material specification (ASTM or SAE grade)
  6. Weight of part (if available) -- iron weighs 0.26 pounds / cu. in.
  7. If the casting is part of an assembly, any assembly drawings or associated information is helpful
  8. Special requirements specific to the casting
  9. If this is not a new part, any history regarding quality issues/problems
  10. Description of existing pattern and corebox tooling if available (digital photos help!)
  11. Value-added machining (if required) including specifications/drawing
  12. Value-added paint/primer/coating description (if required) including specifications
  13. Special packaging or shipping requirements

Providing the foundry with complete information at the start of the quotation process will ensure you receive a timely and accurate quotation.
